INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP - THE JOURNEY SO FAR

The African Christian Fellowship began with a vision from the Minister, with the outcome being the call for International students to have a place in the house of God, so that they might feel free to be themselves. Most importantly is that they will continue in their faith rather than be carried away by the sight of a new life in England. Even more importantly is that those who do not know the Master will meet with Him even as they commune with other international students in the Church.

Starting out

After prayerfully considering the vision as described to them, we came up with the name African Christian Fellowship, to the end that the students, being Africans will understand them more readily due to being from the same ethnic background. Encouraging familiarity and aiding in communication was a key issue.

The first meeting began with a Love Feast entitled “WELCOME AFRICA”. The meeting took place on Thursday 7th October 2010 at the Church. It was wonderful to see this vision brought to life.

During this time, we found ways to understand where to begin by using programs such as the Alpha Course and other inspirational sources, thus determining a starting point for the vision we have at hand.

With our starting point in mind we decided to begin from the book of St John chapter 3, we read and based our studies on 4 verses each fortnight, to allow the students time for their studies, work etc ..... It was fantastic, as the Lord unfolded unto us the treasures hidden in His word.

WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPNENING IN 2011

Since then, we have been meeting on Wednesday’s. At the beginning of 2011 we decided to add some activities in between our Bible studies. Some of these activities included Table Tennis, Football, Bowling and watching Christian films. We also have had guest speakers who are members of our church and others whom we feel led to invite to be a blessing unto us through the power of God in their lives.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

On February 2nd 2011 the African Christian Fellowship met together and decided on a change of name from African Christian Fellowship to International Fellowship. This change was agreed as necessary as the Lord began to add unto us other nationalities other than Africans. That is, nationalities of the others present in the Central Baptist Church both students and non students. We pray that God will bring others who are in need and maybe not a part of our church or another organisation will join us and come to know Christ personally also.

We began with 3 students, today we have a list of over 50 students with whom we communicate and encourage by way of offering advice and support in challenging times. We also direct other students who need other forms of assistance from the Church, to the Minister. We have an average attendance of ten people on our meeting days this includes students and non students. On our activity days we sometimes double in numbers.

Playing Football

Since our initial meeting, we have seen and heard of the great things the Lord has been doing in the lives of our students and those they have contact with. The purpose of the group has been kept intact and we always take time to remind ourselves of this great vision...... ‘That we might remain in Him and He in us and that those who do not know Him will soon do so’.
